Hi,
Yes, I can give you some information. With Belize like all other countries if you want the wedding to be consider legal in the US then it has to be a civil wedding. The fees can be a bit high because of translation and the services of lawyer to document and submit the required forms. You will have to be in the country at least 24 hours prior to the wedding, however many places ask that you be there at least 2 business days (Monday - Friday) before the wedding so they can order the flowers and arrange the food. Yes, I know much is preplanned however because you could change your mind up until the time of your departure, the resorts and venues like to wait until you get down there to order.
One item that I will say about Belize weddings is that you look at the guests who you feel will be traveling. This is not a destination for very large weddings over 50 people because there is not much "table" space to seat everyone comfortable at one time. So if you are looking for a large group then I would strongly suggest against it because you will not get what you want. Another issue is are your guests well travelers. If you travel to one of the keys it is going to be by boat. You don't want them hanging over the edge. Also if they have not been out of the country and expect something like an all inclusive in Mexico, then again, they will be disappointed. This destination is great for smaller, intimate weddings who are looking for more casual type event.
I have to say the best location is the keys. There is a couple of jungle resorts that we have used in the past, but people miss the beach.
So I hope this helps! Best Wishes on your special day!
Take care
Lindsay

Hi Lindsay and Jenn.
Lindsay, have you been to Belize or the Cayes? First off, most people traveling to the Cayes take a 10 minute flight and water taxi by boat is not the only transport.
As far as fees being higher due to "translation" I am not certain what you mean. Belize is an English speaking country therefore no translation is required. Also, depending on which type of license you apply for you do not need to be in Belize 24 hours prior to receiving a license to marry.
Also, we do not recommend nor prefer a couple to wait until they arrive here to do anything, we do this with the long prior to arrival and just about all venues prefer this. When you say there is not a lot of "table" space and you do not recommend the destination for a party over 50, what specific venue are you speaking of? We hold many weddings here with over 100 people. We plan numerous weddings per year which are upscale and not a "casual" setting as you've mentioned.
Have you been down here? You've referred to the islands are "Keys" which are called "Cayes" down here. If you have not yet visited Belize consider a trip and I'd enjoy meeting up with you and hearing about your location you offer for destination weddings.
Jenn, if you have interest in Belize please feel free to contact me direct.
