I recently met an officiant where I live and se suggested we marry here first, then just have a spiritual ceremony in Dominican, it would save the hassle of all the legal fees and translation...and you know it would be official here in Canada....
Has anyone done this? Or is thinking of this? |

how bad are all those extra fees that you would rather get married here than to do it there?
i never thought about it that way, but it makes sence to take care of things here instead.... but then why even go away to get married in the first place? it makes it seem pointless almost and now i feel a little discouraged. |

Hello Blushingbelle,
Some resorts have a fee of around $750 for the translation and legalization of the marriage license.
It all depends on the resort or venue where you plan to get married.
Please PM me if you still have any questions about the procedure.
Best regards,

Hi there, we are planning our wedding for next January (2010) and we have both been married before, therefore having a tiny wedding. We will be having a civil ceremony in our hometown at the city hall, then leaving for Punta Cana the following weekend. The legalities are a pain in the butt, and very costly and that is the best option for us. The Dominican Consolate is in Toronto. That is where all of the paperwork needs to be sent to, far in advance of your ceremony. We are planning on booking the resort soon with our "witnesses" and in order to have our "renewal of vows" for "FREE", we have to book a premium room, with royal service. BOO HOO I say....it is about the same price difference as paying for the spiritual wedding ceremony at our resort. Are you married now and is this what you have done??? Regards.......Sue |

| Hi, we are getting married in Punta Cana, we are considering doing the same as well. Getting married in the States then heading over for the ceremony! Our wedding planner suggested not telling our guests this way they feel part of the ceremony! Apparently, no one will know the difference..! |
