Hi all, we are looking to plan our DW in July 2005. We are stuck between the Bahamas and Jamaica as options, and are looking at possibly going with Sandals at whichever island we chose.
Has anyone had any experiences with either location? Anything we should know, or any recommendations? We've never been to either place, so its all much of an adventure!
Thanks in advance

| My father and stepmother recently went on their honeymoon at the Sandals resort in the Bahamas and in Jamaica. We spoke with them because we are planning our destination wedding at a Sandals resort. He said to definitely go with the resort at the Bahamas because some of the locals in Jamaica tend to bother the guests. When they were there, they were trying to relax on the beach, and the people were constantly bothering them asking them to buy whatever souvenirs they were selling. He also said that they would come up to you in boats while you were in the water asking you to buy things. I'm not sure how many people you are having at your wedding, but I'm sure they wouldn't want to be bothered with those people. I hope this helps! |

hi Tracey,
I've been to both, and just had my DW in Nassau at the Breezes resort. They have very different feels to them, so there are a lot of differences. Jamaica is a non-stop party, and I did have similar experiences with locals hassling me. However, you get that at just about every destination. I liked the Bahamas because it was close to the East Coast for us, and it had a mix of everything-casinos, beaches, things to do off-resort, etc.
Hope this helps! |

Both places are equally exotic and beautiful. They both make excellent locations for beach weddings. However, the feedback about Jamaica is quite true to some extent.
If it was probably just a family vacation, you could have taken the necessary precautions and still enjoyed your stay in Jamaica. But, for an event as important as you wedding day, would you be willing to make compromises? I know I wouldn't.
So, in a nutshell...the Bahamas it is |
