Puerto Plata is fun. There are things to do off the resort, and there is decent night life.

You will need all your documents translated and legalized if you plan on getting married in the DR.

Bella,

To avoid having email addresses posted on the board, you can simply click the "email" link, or "pm" (private message) link at the the botom of Mists post.

Always better not to ask for email addresses posted directly!

Thanks

Though I love D.R I have to say that the beach in Puerto Plata isn't the greatest it's a little on the dark side, Punta Cana on the other hand is gorgeous
But I guess it depends really at what you're looking for

I just wanted to give a little insight to Puerto Plata vs Punta Cana:

I have been to both in a 6 month span and the major differences are:

The beach

Punta Cana-white sands, torquise waters, awesome breeze, tall palm trees, low current, no reef close to shore

Puerto Plata-dark sands, dark blue water, no breeze, shorter palm trees, high current at times, BUT major reef so close to shore, you can snorkle in neck deep water and actually see beautiful fish.

I stayed at the Bahia Principe in Punta Cana and it was a place that was always alive...there is a casino, market right in the complex, not to mention the 4 a la carte restaurants you could pick from and the on site nightclub. it was just a perfect place, with lots to do everywhere, not a boring moment all week!

I also stayed at the Gran Ventana in Puerto Plata, which was a smaller production, but still had 3 a la cartes which were fabulous, a small market just outside the hotel (still in the complex) and in my opinion, the friendliest people ever! The downers were that there was no nite life, it was 11pm lights out practically....and the beach wasnt the white sands i had hoped for.

I enjoyed my vacation at both places as i was with my boyfriend and he is the greatest! But like i said, they offer different things....

Happy planning and rest assured that the people in the DR are amoungst the friendliest of all the islands.....and the food is very good!
Very Happy

I just wanted to post my opinion to Puerto Plata.

My fiance and I stayed at Bahia Principe in Puerto Plata, Dominican. The beach wasn't very nice. The resort itself was pretty good. Although both myself and my fiance got really sick. I was on antibiotics for 2 weeks when I got home for a gastro. infection.

Just make sure if you do choose Puerto Plata that you watch what foods you eat and don't drink ANY water!!

I was married at the Bahia Principe Punta Cana, it was BEAUTIFUL, the restaurants, staff..everything was AMAZING ...

We had heard that the beach in Puerto Plata wasn't as 'TROPICAL' looking as Punta Cana...

I guess it's something to consider for your wedding pics...

I just came back from both Puerto Plata and Punta Cana.
I am very familiar with both areas.
Both are really nice. Punta Cana's beaches are nicer but the area is more expensive than Puerto Plata. Puerto Plata has more stuff to do outside the resort as it is a bustling tourist city. Punta Cana is completely isolated from the rest of the island. (i.e. you prob won't find a good night club to go to).
Either way, you are making a great choice. Both offer AMAZING resorts and excellent places for your wedding.
If you have questions, just email me back Smile

I just wanted to suggest the Lifestyle Hacienda Resort, it's right on Cofresi Beach in Puerto Plata. It's a fantastic, all inclusive resort and if you book with an owner you and all your guests will be entitled to the VIP amenities. The prices are extremely reasonable Smile
