I can't decide between Jamaica & Bahamas. I'm leaning toward Bahamas because I think it would be cheaper for my family. There are quite a few cruise&/hotel stay options. Which would be a better city chose Nassau/Grand Bahama kid friendly also?

Hi there!

You might consider Vieques Island, Puerto Rico, for an option that's halfway between the Bahamas and Jamaica. It's easy to get to and there are cheap flights to San Juan from everywhere. Vieques is a tiny island just off the coast of the bigger island, accessible by a $2 ferry. The paperwork is easy because it's a part of the U.S. and it's far less commercialized (and therefore less expensive) than the Bahamas or Jamaica.

I do not know if you have made arrangements yet, however, the problem we have encountered is the airport from where our guests will be departing. Jamaica flights are excellent if you live near a major airport, however, mid-size to small airports do not receive the benefit of travel deals. This makes travel extremely expensive with limited flight times; departures and arrivals are a mess and many of our friends will not be able to attend. I do not know the flight details of the Bahamas, but I would talk to a good travel agent and ask the question, "Which destination is the easiest to get to and which has the best accomodations ?"
